“If I feel like running, I tie my shoes and go… And if I feel like lying on the couch I’ll do that”. Urte Fiek, an ultrarunner from Hamburg, Germany finds her balance in a sport that causes a lot of mental and physical pain. She was riding the high of coming off two contests with great results, but when one took a turn deeming her unable to finish, she struggled with the thought of failure. That’s when she had to pull herself from the dark depths of her mind and finish the season with an accomplishment. No starting gate, no finish line, just her and the mountains.
