It was a beautiful Monday morning when the ladies of She Shreds* took Eldora by storm. The anticipation leading up to this event was at the boiling point. Ladies from across Colorado descended on the newly rejuvenated Eldora Parks Program which is now under Woodward’s control and decided that nothing was going to stand in their way.
We started out by getting to know each other, meeting in the lodge to get our discounted lift tickets and decide what parks to ride that afternoon. After a few minutes we took to the hill and that’s when the fun began. The ladies were throwing down one-footed tricks over the box line, backside spins and half cabs were tossed into the mix on the perfect corduroy and smiles and high fives were found everywhere.
Regardless if someone didn’t land their intended tricks we had people chanting and cheering from the lift. This is when we realized that this was something truly special. A bunch of girls, some friends, but most of us strangers, getting together to progress ourselves and encourage others. The true essence of snowboarding is when you can look over at your friends in the lift line and everyone is smiling. We were lucky enough to have one of Summit County’s finest, Jen Herman (aka Zen Jen), to capture all of these incredible moments on film. She also closed the day out with the comment “this was totally epic Erika, I’ve had so much fun”, which can be counted as a win for the day. With most of us being in our mid-twenties we were welcomed by Aurora Marruffo, a 13-year old National competitor also from Summit County, Colorado, who had no issues with her frontboards.
When we came together at Eldora we were hoping to find a great afternoon of snowboarding and maybe learn a trick or two, but what we learned on Monday was that we are all in this together. She Shreds is all about raising female stoke for their participation in action sports. You could say this event was proof of the commitment women have to snowboarding. The passion that women have in the industry is incredible, but the passion these girls showed for togetherness, for bonding, that was what this snowboard gathering was all about.
