Wilderness First Aid and Companion Rescue Course

WFA and AIARE rescue course
This women specific course.
VNTRbirds and Desert Mountain Medicine have come together to offer 2 courses that go hand in hand in the backcountry. AIARE Companion Rescue and Wilderness First Aid for Winter Backcountry Users.

What will you learn?


Wilderness First Aid for Winter:

· Traumatic Injuries Associated With Winter Backcountry Activities
· Winter Environmental Medicine
· Protocols And The ICAR Avalanche Burial Checklist
· Intro To Backcountry Communication Devices
· Winter Specific Litter Building and more!

Companion Rescue:

· Identify and be able to use gear necessary for avalanche rescue.
· Set up a realistic scenario in order to practice an avalanche rescue response.
· Improve their response skills and times.
· Develop a plan for continuing practice.
· All students will have the opportunity to get feedback from an instructor on their rescue skills and timed practice in a realistic scenario.

SIGN UP HERE

Open to both skiers and splitboarders. You should be able to ski/ride blues and blacks ungroomed terrain on the resort. You must be able to efficiently travel on snow on your backcountry equipment. You need to have proper backcountry equipment including BEACON, SHOVEL, PROBE, BACKPACK and AT SKIS or SPLITBOARD along with a HELMET.  Need to rent safety equipment? It will be available to rent through us in registration. Additional $30.

Schedule

· Pre-course learning – you will receive this immediately when you register. Give yourself plenty of time to get through all the information and be ready to jump into your course!
· 2 days at DMM headquarters in Leadville.
· 1 day in the field on Fremont Pass – meet early at the trailhead and spend the day outside.

Looking for a place to stay?
We recommend that you stay either in Leadville or Frisco, that way you have easy access to our classroom/field day locations.

Each participant receives an automatic $60 off from VNTRbirds scholarship fund. Course valued at $495. Our scholarship fund makes our courses more affordable therefore more inclusive!

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.

Cancelation policy:
· Notice of cancellation more than 14 days in advance will receive a full refund less a 10% administrative fee.
· Notice of cancellation less than 14 days in advance will receive no refund. Clients may have the option to transfer to another course or clinic with a $50 transfer fee (if available).
There is a processing fee on credit card transactions that is not collected by VNTRbirds. Please note that because this fee is not collected by us, we are unable to refund this fee in the event that a refund is requested.

COVID policy & guidelines:
· Employees will conduct daily symptom checks.
· We will use the recommendations from the CDC and abide by Colorado state safety orders.

All participants will be required to fill out a waiver and a medical history form before the event.
